Protecting Your Property During Summer Storms

Why It May Be Time for You to Remove That Mature Tree

by Bobbie Miles

There may be millions of trees in your town or city and they are a vital part of life in general. After all, they help to deal with excess carbon dioxide by absorbing and storing this harmful toxin, and they make the place much nicer to look at as well. However, there comes a time when some of these trees can be a nuisance or may pose a threat to health and safety, and you may be facing just such a situation in your back garden. Is it time for you to get rid of those trees?

Continued Growth

Sometimes, a residential neighbourhood is developed around existing mature trees and you may find that the trees in your back garden have been there for hundreds of years more than the house itself. Still, these trees may continue to grow and as they do so, they may begin to impact the property in a number of different ways.

For example, the canopy may continue to spread and may now be getting very close to overhead lines or rubbing up against the side of the building. If this were allowed to continue then it would almost certainly cause damage to the structure, and you may need to take action before long. Certainly, you may be able to cut back some branches, but the scale of this tree may call for more drastic action.

Further Afield

You may also find that a mature tree has started to cause damage to neighbouring properties or underground utility lines. In this case, it may be due to the drought conditions in your area over recent years and these trees may have been even more aggressive in their search for moisture. Consequently, the root network may have crossed your property boundary and is now under your neighbour's land. This invasion may have caused some damage to underground pipes and might have backed up the water into your next-door neighbour's home.

Time for Removal

If you have little choice, then you need to get rid of the tree altogether and kill off the surface roots so that those underground roots will naturally wither and die. This will also get rid of that encroaching canopy and may also make your property a lot brighter in the bargain.

Experts Only

Always bring in professionals to work on a tree removal project. As these trees are particularly mature, the tree surgeon will need to approach their removal with great care, to ensure that damage is minimised and safety is assured.
